Personal Apology to UK Readers

I am deeply sorry that the NFL has decided that people in the UK only deserve the worst possible games.  Sending my hometown Lions to London is almost an international war crime.  The biggest problem with US professional sports is that we lack anything like relegation.  The Lions would belong in the Football League 2 and not the top level by now but the system is run for and by the owners who in the NFL still make money even with teams that are bad for generations.  We now approach the 50th superbowl and the Lions are the only franchise in continuous existence over that time to have never played in one.

  1. wow! I've met disappointed lions fans before (is there any other kind?) But comparing watching them in England to a crime against humanity is something new, although I was laughing so hard I almost choked when I read your post.

    1. The Lions are bad but honestly having the Jags go even more often should probably cause Goodell to be sent to The Hague for prosecution.

  2. I was at the game..... They were dreadful. They just never looked like getting anything at all going and the final score was fair. It was mercy when the game ended.

    1. I remember going to a game as a kid when the crowd erupted in applause in the third quarter. What happened you might ask? The Lions earned their first first down. It has probably been almost 30 years but the team results are the same.

  3. Due to a combination of health issues and the resultant financial problems I didn't make a game this year. However even a bad NFL game is fun and I would have been happy to attend this one if I could. As a Bears fan I am happy the Lions suck it means we might not be the bottom of the NFC North this years, although we appear to be trying hard.

    1. We will probably take your place at the bottom this season. I was not thinking the Lions were likely make the play offs this year but hoped they might at least compete for a wild card. No chance they were going to get a head of the packers.
