The second Imperial ship from the recent X-Wing starfighter wave is the Tie Phantom. This ship is supposedly from the Rebel Assault computer game series. I do not remember them but that was a long time ago. The ship has a very low profile from the front.
It has the same three partial three fold symmetry to the panels as the defender but instead of full interceptor panels flexed differently they are half panels connected directly to the hull.
Back has the same three fold symmetry. Sort of interesting design overall.
The seller for the phantom is the cloak action which allows it essentially to pick up two extra defense dice and then get a quick bonus move before wanting to attack. Interesting stuff.
The phantom hits hard with 4 base attack dice and when cloaked has 4 instead of its base 2 defense dice. Luckily it is pretty soft with 2 shields and 2 hull. Prices go from 25 to 32 so this is costing more than 2 base tie fighters. The phantom also accepts a crew member to go with an advanced system.
You get 5 upgrade cars with the advanced clocking device seeming like a standard take though it does raise the cost again but is probably going to pay for itself in terms of ship combat effectiveness and survival.
Hi Eriochrome, thanks for these reviews; I am just breaking into X-Wing and they are giving me a good picture of what is available. Would you have any advice about good early purchases for Imperials? Would you consider a doing a post with some ideas for people just starting up? Cheers ;-)
ReplyDeleteMarc, thanks for coming by. I have to say that I am not one to know the good lists for the imperials as I do not real face top level competition when I do play. I think the tie swarm is pretty popular still but that is certainly a capital investment. You might try the Metal Bikini site which I have in blogroll for info on starting lists.
DeleteThanks for the advice, I'll check it out. I don't think I'll be doing much competitive play, X-Wing doesn't seem to have much a presence in Australia (...yet).
