Horus Heresy Jumps the Shark

Here it is.  Forgeworld took their board into the water and jumped that shark.  I guess this comes from essentially only having 2 games to support the whole company.  People only need so many dreadnoughts.  I guess they decided they needed a new super dreadnought.  This guy is an eye sore of ridiculous on his own but then you go and call this a Deredeo Pattern Dreadnought.

No I will not stand for this.  I have Codex Titanicus on my nightstand right now.  I can look up what a Horus Heresy Deredeo Dreadnought weapon pattern is.  Guess what it is Bolters and a Missile Launcher.  Not even a fancy missile launcher like a whirlwind launcher just a basic missile launcher.  Almost Thirty years of history now in this stuff.  Dreadnoughts started out with basically 4 bolters now they are carrying 2 sets of autocannons better than those found as the main weapon a predator tanks plus multiple rocket systems like the main armament on the whirlwind.  Rule of Cool? I guess.  Must be why GW has passed me by.

That model reminds me of this

And this is sort of cool looking but it is robotech not 40K.  It is also called a Monster.

Do you disagree with me?  Is this what is needed?  Is it just the arms race?  Am I an old fuddy duddy?

  1. It looks an awful lot like a Defender destroid from Robotech, even more so than a Monster: http://robotech.wikia.com/wiki/Destroid_Defender. I'm guessing they were looking for a dedicated anti-aircraft unit and decided that the Dreadnought was a better platform, from a sales perspective, than another tank (a post-Heresy answer to the flyer problem). I'll be voting with my wallet and giving this one a miss.

    1. The normal double twin autocannon dreadnought Mortis is often called the Rifleman as reference to the battletech name for the Defender. This ones guns are much bigger as is the body.

  2. And then a couple of Guardsmen with Meltas waste this ugly thing doin' a drive by on turn 2.

  3. It's pretty ridiculous looking that's for sure, however I can still imagine fielding one of them.

    1. I guess that is one way they can go for their designs. The 90's have a lot of stuff like that.
