Impact! Miniatures Brings Classic Rolljordan Back to the Pitch

Impact! Miniatures is running a kickstarter to get two classic Roll Jordan Fantasy Football Teams converted to their Trollcast Resin.  The first team is the Frog man team whose metal versions I am using in the league right now.  There are some new blitzer models to better mark them as different from the line and and sideline figures.  The second is the Silvania Elf team which look like lovely models but are a little more sexy than I would like in my fantasy football teams.  I have noted in the past it is very hard to find a reasonably clad and styled female team.  Base teams are a very reasonable 50 for full rosters with big guys (or gals).  Sideline/star packs are like 24 for those 8 models.  Might get a Frog sideline pack myself, since I do like my frog models.

Impact! Miniatures Trollcast Teams Kickstarter Arrives

Impact! Miniatures has started delivery on their 20 Trollcast Team kickstarter from the early summer.  The first batch of deliveries went to people who were going to be at Chaos Cup but since those are the serious players there were a lot of teams going there.  Our order came back with our leagues attendees and is in the process of being divided up within the league.  Overall the minis look pretty good.  They are resin so they can capture details that you do not see in the things like Reaper Bones, but resin has its quality control issues as anyone with Forgeworld or Finecast products will know.  Our group got like 9+ teams so that is a lot of resin to check so it might take a few weeks to compile our list of any issues.  Some of the minis have lots of little parts so some missing parts are not going to be unexpected given that he got this kickstarter from funding to starting delivery in only a few months.

Look for photos and more a more detailed review in the future.

Impact! Miniatures Updates the Dark Elves in Kickstarter

Impact! Miniatures has updated the Dark Elf team in their Kickstarter.  They added a new Witch elf and shifted the previous witch elf  into the star player group.  They also added the assassin Star player and the undead star player to the Dark elves which makes the two sets of star players have 2 shared players and 3 distinct players.

Originally I was thinking that I would get one elf team along with a small pack of specialist for the other team and then the star players to get a team usable for either but with the new star players I would need second set which would move the cost of that up higher, but Impact! has said that if they can get pledges up to 41,300 (so about another 10K in a week) then they will combine the Elf stars into one set.  So help them do that and take a look at the teams.

They have a special of 5 teams for 170 dollars which generally include like 22+ players with big guys.  So 34 dollars each.  A 12 man GW team was last retailing at 50 and generally cost another 45 for a big guy and 4 player booster. I think the Croc type team looks very nice and the old style chaos players would go well with my 2nd Ed Chaos Pact team.

Impact! Miniatures: Dungeon Chest Set

In my recent Impact! Miniatures order, I got a Dungeon Chest set. This show the components of the kit. I have shown both sides of the bomb/ball piece but have only included in this picture 1 of the 6 chests with covers and 1 of the 6 treasure pieces. So you get enough components to build 6 treasure chests with either 6 bombs, 6 treasures, or replace up to 2 of these with spiked balls.

Here is the treasures. Yes, those do appear to be cold ones in a bed of ice. Thristy players in your fantasy football team might want something a little heavier than lizard aid.

Pretty nice detail on chest with lock.
Here is the top of the chest. Still look pretty good.

So these are the bombs and ball. Ball probably could look a little better but I like the grenade with popped trigger.

Back when these were announced I wonder how you would use them. Essentially you need a third party to load the chests since you will never be able to paint them identically enough not to be able to tell where the ball is. Small problem but still a nice little set.

Impact! Weather Dice

In a recent order from Impact! Miniatures, I got these neat weather dice. I always forgot to roll the weather in my league games. I think it is because the record sheet has spots for all the other pregame things to be recorded but skips the weather. These dice seem like the perfect solution to that problem. If I put them in the bad with the block dice I do not have to worry about forgetting all the time.

This set comes with two different dice that are rolled together to determine the weather. The first die has 5 partly cloudys which represent nice weather. The final face on the first die is a storm. When this comes up you look at the second die to determine the actual affect. There are 2 raining, 1 snowing, 2 bright sunny, and 1 heat wave on the second die.

I think this is a pretty neat product and hope to get some use out of it next time I play. The dice can also double as your weather marker by just leaving them sitting on the corner of the board.

I wonder if 40K scenarios could be improved with some weather rolls affecting sight distances and movement speeds.

Fantasy Football: Player Aid Skill Rings

Here is another item I got from Impact! Miniatures, skill rings. These are little plastic rings with inner diameters just larger than the standard base size. Originally I expected them to be almost exact fits which were held in place by the sloping edges of the bases so that they would stay on if you picked the piece up without any problem. This is not the case.

They come off the bottom if you are not careful. The reason for this is so that you can slip them on and off from the bottom without having to take the mini through the ring. Most of the minis are not totally contained in the diameter of the base so getting perfect fit rings on them would have been like those classic metal puzzles games of going around 1 arm first then the head then this spike etc. Given that some minis it is not even possible it is a good thing they slip on from the bottom. Even with this limitation they seem to work pretty well.

Here we have a yellow ring and a blue one allowing for these to skinks to be quickly identified as one with say catch and the other with side step.

The rings come in lots of different colors varieties but probably defeat their usefulness if every single model has a different one. I got a combo back with 6 different rings each in their own color but they have other arrangements like if you give players block you could get a bunch of red rings(Red=Blitzers whose defining feature is start with block skill) or green (Green=Blockers traditionally). One of the guys in my league writes in pen skills on the white painted edges of his bases especially for tournaments. Of course he does not always update them between league and tournament play so that is less helpful.

With my last league team I did not need these since I pretty much had a different model for the full roster except for 2 repeated gutter runners but this might something I need this season. Might even take them to games and ask if I can place them on opponents players which have specific skills of note like strip ball or stat increase to help use both keep track of them.

Fantasy Football: Player Aid Tokens

As part of one of my Christmas presents from my mom, I got a token pack from Impact! Miniatures to use with fantasy football games. The token pack comes with 1 Stunned/Prone token, 1 rooted token, and 1 no zone token. I also had her get me an additional Stunned/Prone in case I need 2 at once. Nice plastic tokens. Wording could be a little clearer but you can always brighten it with some white paint.

Everyone has seen this situation caused by the different in size between the big guys bases and the board spaces. What is a slight problem standing(I have some on square bases which is worse) becomes a huge problem when the player is prone or stunned. Enter the prone/stunned token.

Now no space problem, plus since one side is labeled prone and the other stunned you also can use it for any models which have a hard time lying down both ways due to their 3 dimensional nature(not a problem for most of the minis but can happen). I got two in case more than 1 big guy was in use but I was thinking it would be great if these came in 2 different colors(red and blue) to make sure people do not get confused about which token is for which big guy. Might not happen often but I could imagine two big guys down right next to each other combined with some fast paced turnovers causing a forgetful coach to replace the wrong one with his big guy.

Here is another one of the tokens in action. Gutter runner just slips on by the no zoned big guy. These tokens are good because both bonehead and hypnotized players have to take actions to get their zones back so it is possible for them to stay that way over several turns where you could easily forget. An coach with lots of gaze would do well to have multiple tokens like this. Luckily they have a combo pack for that also.

These tokens are pretty cheap so if you are ordering something already they are a could thing to throw in with it so you are not paying separate shipping charges.
