Nerd Heaven

This weekend I got the chance to go see Star Wars in Concert. One of my friends won 4 free tickets from a TV station website. Since his wife did not want to get a babysitter to go with him, he made a guys night out of it with me and 2 other friends. We got together for dinner then headed over to the show. This was my fourth time to this venue in like 2 months after never having gone to it before in like 15 years.

The show consists of 80 musicians plus a large choir with a huge screen behind then plus lighting and laser effects. It traces the story arc of the six movies from the rise of the dark forces to the creation of Darth Vader ending in his redemption. The musicians play the theme of each segment as video clips are shown on the screen mixed in with live images of the musicians. We all said that you get engrossed in watching the screen and the music sounds so good that you almost forget it is being played live in front of you.

Narration was provided by Anthony Daniels in person to go from clip to clip. It was a great show for a Star Wars fan like myself and I am sure the really fanatical people out there just loved it. I am sort of on low side of the fan ladder. I have all the movies on DVD, art books for the original 3, some video games, a t-shirt, a set of star ship blueprints, a stuffed ewok from my youth, and toys still stored at my moms house. I do not have a costume or any replica lightsabers.

It of course did have parts about the pod racing from episode 1 which could have been cut out like a bad memory but nothing is perfect but Jar Jar did not have any real screen time or any dialog.

The show also travels with a memorabilia exhibit of costumes and props plus people from the 501st Legion come out in costumes. I only took a couple of photos since the place was full of all the people looking at all the stuff.

Blood Bowl 2nd Edition Goblins

These are my second edition gobbos. I had 8 basic gobbos and 2 pogo star players. The chainsaw looney is a new edition from my wooden spoon prize for the Tzeentch Challenge. Again not enough for a team but enough to use them as I did as part of the Underworld Creepers. If you look at the figure so can see that one of the guys is sort of grey. This was caused recently as I have been stripping the figures. They were never painted but they had a lacquer coat my dad put on them to limit the skin to lead contact. I tried to get it off with simple green and while it did remove some I need to go to a lacquer thinner to really get them clean. The grey guy was the result of the simple green bath followed by the thinner bath.

Goblins used to come in 2 flavors. The basic lineman like these four guys.

Or Catcher goblins like these 4. Goblins stats have changed a lot since second edition with now only the standard goblin lineman available all at strength 2.

Here are the secret weapons. 2 Pogosticks of Doom and a chainsaw.

I even had 2 cheerleaders for the goblins. I think these must have come in the packs with the goblins I do not think I would have bought them seperately. These are actually the only off the pitch figures I have in my collection. No other cheerleaders, refs, or coaches were ever purchased.

Blood Bowl League: Finals

Our little blood bowl league finished up the season recently. The league is small enough (4 coaches this season) to have a fixed schedule of playing every other coach twice. I finished the regular season 4-1-1 with a lose in my first game of the season against the Norse team and a tie vs the Nurgle Team in our second meeting. This made me the top seed in the playoffs with the Norse team at a 4-2 record, Nurgle at 3-2-1 and the Dark Elves at 0-6. The Dark elf team really ran into multiple problems. He was a pretty new player trying to get the hang of a tough team. He first played both the Norse and Nurgle teams and tried to bash them then having learned that did not work to well against them avoided bashing my skaven. By the end of the season he was starting to get the hang of the team but the low winnings and no fan factor improvements kept him down.

Since their are only 4 coaches everyone made the play offs. I as top seed was matched with the bottom seed. I won the close game 3-2 thanks to a timely blitz result on the kick off table allowing me to score on the opening kick off of the second half to him.

I then faced the Nurgle team in the finals. I was pretty sure I was going to lose this game since the other coach is a better player than I am and his Nurgle team has a lot more advancement than mine. The pivotal moment was probably the opening kickoff where he rolled a perfect defense allowing him to rearrange his frontline. All of my carefully arranged 2D blocks were removed and he tentacled up my gutter runner. I got some gutter runners free into the back field but his tackle mightly blow beastman were always able to get them down. I sent them out to piece mail and they were cut down.

He turned me over at like turn 6 but did not get the ball into the endzone so fist half was 0-0. Second half was a 8 turn slugfest were I did manage to dislodge the ball but did not recover it. He scored on turn 8 so I had to try the 1 turn score to win. Do to all the disturbng presences I tried the long bomb over them to a side stepping gutter runner who had made it to the endzone but the pass was intercepted. I would have missed the pass anyway. Should have done the short pass before the pushing probably to manage the risk between the runner and the thrower but I had used my reroll for the turn on a dodge to do some of the pushes. So I lost 0-1.

The next season will probably start after the holidays and we are getting some new coaches so we are discussing how to restart. Since I have so many teams I will probably try a new team but will not decide which until I hear what the rules will be and what the other teams are so I can be something no one else is.

Blood Bowl 2nd Edition Chaos

I never had enough chaos players in second edition to have a team. Back in second edition a Chaos human team was pretty much a normal human team with 2 mutants with random numbers of mutations and random mutations. I only have the star players from the random star player packs. These three guys are from left to right Wormhowl Greyscar, Duke Luther Von Hawkfire, and Galmen Goreblade. I really like the Wormhowl model.

First 2 mutants I have are Whithergrasp Doubledrool and Dieter Hammerlash.

Followed by Dorjak Sureclaw and Slarga Fourstike.

Here is the one Nurgle Aligned Star Player:Bilerot Vomitflesh. Who are these people parents to name them such things.

I might have some spare 2nd Edition Blood Bowl Chaos Star Players for sale in my Bargain Bin.
