Blood Bowl: Miniature Size Comparisons Orcs

Now for Part II of the size comparison between the models in Blood Bowl 2016 and previous releases.
From left to right I have aligned the 2nd Edition Plastics, 2nd Edition Lead, 3rd Edition Plastic, 3rd Edition Petwer and Finally the 2016 Edition Plastics.

Blizters

Blockers

Lineman

Throwers

As you can see the size varation is more pronounced that with the Humans but also all over the place with the 2nd edition plastic being often the biggest until the newest edition.  Strangely the 2nd edition metal Blizters and Blockers seems smaller than the lineman or thrower from the same edition.

Blood Bowl: Model Size Comparisons Humans

So the new edition of Blood Bowl dropped last month and I got a copy for my collection for Christmas.  One of the first things people commented on during the rumor and reveal time was that GW was following the Age of Sigmar path and increasing the size of the models.  I am sure this is only to allow more detail and not to try to get people to rebuy stuff so that it is not funny looking next to the new stuff.

Now that I have the set I was able to leverage my collection to compare the different models from the game over nearly the past 30 years to see how consistent they have been in scale.  Long story short is that they have never been very consistent.  The models from the Humans are from 6 different official GW products.
From Left to Right: 2nd Edition Plastics (Monopose), 2nd Edition Metal, 3rd Edition Plastic, 3rd Edition Metal, 4-5th Edition Metal, and 2016 Edition Plastics.

Blizters

Catchers

Linemen (2nd and 3rd Models are Human Blocker and Human Lineman from 2nd Edition Metals)

Throwers

Overall we see that the 2nd edition plastics were larger than most of the other models until the recent release.  The 2nd edition metals are bulkier than the 3rd-5th editions but generally not taller.  The most recently released metal team is pretty similar in size the new team.  If they were on the pitch together the 3rd edition plastics would probably show the scale change the worst of these.

6MMRPC: Blood Bowl Star Players

Not much accomplished this week.  I did finally get the painting station reset after having it covered with stuff from my daughters room which was being painted while we were on our trip.  I pulled out 3 Blood Bowl Star Players and cleaned them up of flash and made sure they were assembled.  I also started on painting the next Slann Blitzer for the Innsmouth Eagles.  Very weak progress.

So above we have Boomer Eziasson, Zara the Slayer, and Slibli.

6MMRPC: Blood Bowl 4th Edition Big Guys

For this weeks installment of Miniature Mountain Reduction Mondays, we look at the 4th edition big guys for Blood Bowl.  I have had these guys for a little while now but am only now getting them assembled.   While I guess some people paint then assemble I usually assemble then paint at some later point (often decades).

The Lizardman Kroxigor  comes with 2 different head options.  I went with the crested one.  He goes with the 4th edition Lizardman team which I am sort of light on guys for with only the basic team box.

His tail sticks quite a was out but the model is pretty slim besides that.

Minotaur for the Chaos team which I apparently have never posted.  The third edition minotaur is really the star player so this guy is the new basic one.

Definitely needs some green stuff gap filling still.

Here is the troll for the 3rd edition goblin team.  More of the swamp type than the more comical looking ones like ripper.

Lots of slimy details on the back side.

6MMRPC Begins with Model Mountain Reduction Mondays.

The 6MMRPC begins today.  The rules are no miniature purchases unless you use one of your 3 jokers, or have earned a new one by finishing an entire unit/army/group.  I am working on blood bowl teams so I have to complete a playable team to earn a joker.

You are also supposed to do a hobby related post each week which I will be doing as Model Mountain Reduction Mondays.

I have added links up on the side to the group page and tallies of my progress.  I started my tallies from after I bought my last miniature which was a small scum fighter for X-wing.

Blood Bowl 2nd Edition Minotaurs

Here we have 2 additional minotaurs from the Blood Bowl 2nd Edition collection.  These are both single piece models and are of a pretty reasonable scale to actually use in the game without displacing to many near by models.

Blood Bowl: Morg 'n' Thorg

Here is the GW 3rd Edition model for the Ogre Star Player Morg 'n' Thorg.  I got him with my 3rd edition Chaos Dwarves so he came painted.

He is also part of the same era or design in the 90's which was a bit more silly than the 80's or the modern designs.

Morg can be induced by most teams that are not Undead, Necromancer, or Khemri but his very high cost means he is only there for the really big underdogs.  Never used him myself but the mini can also fill in as a generic ogre for a human team.

Blood Bowl Old School Ogres

Here is my collection of old school ogres for Blood Bowl.  I have 6 total so if I do not give any to other teams could field an ogre team with them and my 2nd edition snotlings.  The guy at the top left is not an official Blood Bowl ogre but is of the same style.

They are in various states of priming/painting/stripping since most of them are second hand pick ups.  The two shinny ones are the ones that have been in the family blood bowl collection since they were first produced like 25 years ago. My dad made me spray varnish all of my leads back in the day to cut down in the lead contact which is why they are still so shiny.

I should probably do close up on them all so will do that next time I have them out.

Blood Bowl 3rd Edition Halflings

Certainly nothing exciting in these guys.  There are 6 different miniatures made up of 2 variations of 3 basic poses.  I lack the tree men to really field this team with just two in total but even if I had them they would be pretty low on the list.  I would probably do goblins first as they at least get the secret weapons which can be fun if not really effective.

Here is the Third edition Treeman Star Player.  Since Halflings generally have a lot in inducements you generally will have 2 tree man plus the tree man star.

This post is really just to fill in the hole in my Blood Bowl Collection Page.

Blood Bowl 3rd Edition Goblins

Filling in more from my blood bowl collection.  Here we have the third edition Blood Bowl goblins.  There are 5 sculpts to build your team from.  I think I got these guys in blister packs and not a team box so have a couple of each of the bare pewter ones but for some reason that left me without the guy on the end who I had to pick up second hand.  The basic goblins are then upgraded to a team with trolls and special weapons.

Blood Bowl 3rd Edition Chaos Dwarves

Today we take a look at the Games Workshop Blood Bowl 3rd Edition Chaos Dwarves.  This is the team I am using for my current league since they were assembled and mostly painted (came that way from second hand purchase).  That team's name is Black Death since that is one of the Chaos Dwarf Team names from back in the old days.  The 3rd edition team is from GW's silly period like most of the 3rd edition stuff looks funny compared to the 2nd edition stuff or more modern works.  In the 40K world, it is the time between the Rogue Trader and the Grim Dark phases.

Blood Bowl 2nd Edition Treeman

Very excited to have picked this guy up on ebay from the UK.  Just arrived yesterday to fill in a hole in my Blood Bowl collection as I had no second edition treemen.  It was not cheap but not really more expansive than any GW finecast blister now for a model this size.  Given this model is probably 20-25 years old (copyright data stamp 89) not to bad of condition either.  Never painted as far as I can tell but was formerly glued together.  The 2nd edition treeman models are also on the rarer side as it is not like you can go to ebay at any random time and find them for sale at a reasonable buy now price.  Another one I saw recently was in a 2nd ed halfling team that listed at like 250 dollars.  I do not have that team and an a collector but no I will pass.

Impact Miniatures Kickstarter

So I went over to the Impact Miniatures Site to check out some Big Guys I was thinking of ordering and I see that they are running a kickstarter.   Their goal is to add a few new teams and convert some others to resin to add to their line of inexpensive resin fantasy football teams.

Now I have gotten stuff from Impact before(skill rings, tokens, weather dice, chests, third party minis)    and have always been happy with both the service and product so I went looking into the kickstarter.  The main new edition is a line of elves which using a mix and match approach can be either Pro or Dark.

This is the dark elf version.  I did a review of the GW Pro Elves and thought them pretty weak so these might be a good alternative.  One of the issues I general have with many of impact models is the sculpting style just does not get me.  I could use a solid fully set up halfling team or maybe another undead/necro style team but their offerings here just do not entice me there.

I do like their big guys though like this Chaos Pact Troll.  So if you are in the market for some fantasy football teams go take a look you might find something that peaks your interest.

Blood Bowl Dwarf Deathroller

Another item for my Blood Bowl Archive, the most recent dwarven deathroller. This is the third of these that GW has produced.  It comes with like 15 parts and was a very pricey model costing almost as much as the 12 man team boxes when it was dropped from sale with the rest of the specialist games stuff last year.

Blood Bowl: Lizardmen Team Box

Today from the archive we have the Games Workshop Blood Bowl Lizardmen Team Box.  You get 12 miniatures with 4 Saurus and 8 Skinks.  This is my third lizardmen team.  I have a converted one and the Gamesday Limited Release one also.

Blood Bowl Pro Elf Team

This is Games Workshop's more recent Pro Elf team for Blood Bowl.  When third edition launched they had wood elves, dark elves, and High elves which all got new models due to the phase out of lead during the transition between 2nd edition and 3rd edition blood bowl.  The Pro Elf team did not reappear in the rules until later.

Games Day Blood Bowl Lizardmen Team: Saurus

Another look at the Games Day Blood Bowl Lizardmen Team.  Previously I showed the skinks and Krox, so today I will go through the Saurus which are all 5 unique.  Again you are one short of the proper amount for the team and the replacements since this was a limited run are costly.

Lots of detail on these so I have a ton of pictures of them.  I have the models in no specific order so we will just go through them.

Blood Bowl: Games Day Lizardman Team: Skinks and Kroxigor

So today we take a look at something special from my blood bowl collection.  This is the Games Day Lizardman team that was created for a US Games Day before the more recent lizardman team was designed.  From the look of them I would guess that they started as Warhammer Fantasy Battle models that a sculptor added some additional details to make them a Blood Bowl Team.  There are a ton of pics for this team so I have seperated it into the Skinks plus Kroxigor then the Sauris.  There was something like 200 of these teams produced so it was a pretty limited release.

Blood Bowl Star Players Griff and Jordell

Today another quick look at some blood bowl minis. These are two star players released in about 2003 from the labels on the casting tabs.  These are human scale models that are multiple part which is pretty rare in the blood bowl universe.  First we have the human star player Griff Oberwald.  The model is 3 parts with two choices for the head.  This is the second Griff model, with the first one released with third edition back in the early to mid 90s.

Blood Bowl: Mighty Zug

The Mighty Zug is an old star player in the Blood Bowl Universe.  I am pretty sure he was mentioned in the second edition rulebooks then showed up in the Star Players hardback.  Originally he was a Blocker for the Reikland Reavers but like all the star players from 3rd edition on, he is now a free agent.  This model is one of the last new models made for the game.
